I started painting when I was very young, and have been painting for almost 10 years. My first portraits were done with pencil, using a flip technique (cutting photos in square and flipping them up to paint underneath).
In grade 11 I did my first painted portrait using a glaze technique with acrylic (several layers of paint, starting with brown and adding yellow tints until skin colours appear). Over several years I have had a chance to experience painting with numerous mediums including acrylic, oil, charcoal, pastels and pencil.
My favourite medium is acrylic and that’s the medium I use to do the black and white portraits. I have done several different portraits in several different sizes. With the help of my teacher, Mr. Goodson, I have perfected the techniques. The response of the first portrait was so overwhelming that I decided to do more portraits for some teachers at school. With assistance from great clients that really appreciated my work, the word spread quickly.
